Kinokuniya Los Angeles

A collaborative art installation designed for a high-traffic retail bookstore environment.

Kinokuniya Los Angeles sees a constant flow of customers throughout the day, with visitors browsing briefly and moving through the space at their own pace. During the installation, participation skewed primarily toward teenagers, who engaged organically without prompting or supervision.

The installation needed to invite participation without disrupting shopping, function continuously within a limited retail footprint, and remain accessible to customers of varying familiarity and confidence levels.

LETSMAKIT was designed to integrate naturally into this environment, allowing customers to contribute in seconds while the artwork gradually came together over time.
